The Lawyers Association of Kansas City Young Lawyers Section is hosting the Missouri State High School Mock Trial Competition March 30, 31 and April 1.  The event is co-sponsored by the KCMBA Young Lawyers' Section and the Missouri Bar Association Young Lawyers Section.

We are looking for attorneys to serve as judges for the competition, which will take place downtown at the Jackson County Courthouse (415 E. 12th Street Kansas City, MO). This is a great opportunity to see how enthusiastic these high school students are about the law, and can reenergize and remind us why we love what we do!

We can use your help for as few or as many rounds as you are available.   If you can volunteer please contact Carly Duvall at cduvall@lathropgage.com or 816-460-5615.  

Round One - Friday  (March 30) :  Judges and volunteers need to arrive 5:30.  Trial starts at 6.  [Dinner will be provided]

 

Round Two - Saturday AM  (March 31) :  Judges and volunteers need to arrive by 9:00 am.  Trial starts at 9:30 am.   [Breakfast will be provided]

 

Quarterfinals - Saturday PM  (March 31) :  Judges and volunteers need to arrive by 1:00 PM.  Trial starts at 1:30. [Lunch will be provided]

 

Semifinals - Sunday AM  (April 1) :  Judges and volunteers need to arrive by 9:00 am.  Trial starts at 9:30 am.   [Breakfast will be provided]

 

Finals - Sunday PM  (April 1) :  Judges and volunteers need to arrive by 1:00 PM.  Trial starts at 1:30. [Lunch will be provided]

LAKC-YLS will also host a Judges Appreciation Happy Hour at Johnny's Tavern in the Power & Light District (1310 Grand Blvd. Kansas City, MO 64106) on April 4, 2012 at 5:30 PM.  All judges are welcome to attend for free drinks and appetizers from LAKC-YLS. 

The Lawyers Association of Kansas City is now accepting nominations for the LAKC Legacy Award. Nominations are due by March 30, 2012 and may be submitted by email to info@lakc.net.

 

Overview

The LAKC Board of Directors established the LAKC Legacy Award to recognize an individual at the LAKC Annual Meeting for his or her significant and enduring contributions to the LAKC and its mission.  While many individuals have donated significant time and effort to the LAKC, the Legacy Award is designed to honor contributions that have left an indelible imprint on the association.

 

Eligibility

 

All individuals not currently serving on the LAKC Board of Directors are eligible to be considered for the Legacy Award. 

 

 

Criteria for Selection of Award Recipient    

The following criteria will be used to select the 2012 recipient of the Legacy Award:

•     Meaningful and lasting contribution to the LAKC and its mission

•     Past involvement in LAKC leadership positions

•     Past involvement in LAKC events and activities

•     Contributions to the public-service mission of LAKC

•     Current involvement in and support of LAKC

•     General advancement of LAKC founding objectives and mission

It is time again for the Kansas City division of the high school Missouri Mock Trial Competition. The first round of competition takes place on Tuesday, January 17th and Thursday, January 19th. The second round takes place on Tuesday, February 21st and Thursday, February 23rd.
